From Vacation to Retirement: Our Yucatán Adventure

First let us introduce ourselves.  We are Andy, Rebecca, and our furry West highland terrier companion Tuman.  We have followed a dream that took us from vacationers to retirees in the enchanting Yucatán. After a series of unforgettable trips to Mexico, the idea of retiring in this vibrant country took root. A decade of meticulous research and explorations led us to various corners of Mexico, each with its unique charm. However, it was the Yucatán, especially the tranquil beach areas near Progreso, that stole our hearts.

Safety, the proximity to the cultural hub of Merida, and the laid-back atmosphere were key factors that influenced our decision. Just outside Chuburna, we stumbled upon a diamond in the rough – a house on a deep, double lot. Despite its need for extensive renovations, the promise of ample space for Rebecca's green thumb to flourish made it irresistible.

For six months, we lived amidst the chaos of remodeling, turning a house into a home that reflected our vision.  Now the only remaining element to be addressed was the naming of our new home.  Being huge fans of the Green Bay Packers, the name was obvious, Casa Bahia Verde.  For those of you that haven’t brushed up on your Spanish, “Bahia Verde” is Green Bay. 

Now that we have settled into the rhythm of our Yucatán haven, we invite others to share in the serenity we've found. From the vibrant blooms in Rebecca's garden to the quiet moments of reflection, we are living our retirement dream on the shores of the Emerald Coast.  We can't wait to share our piece of heaven with you.
